For nationally representative surveys we invite a wide range of people.

If you need to reach a specific segment - such as Volvo owners, diabetics, or people who have bought a kitchen in recent years, we target the participants based on the background information we have collected from the panel members. We often have specific information about our panel members, so that we can reach a particular target group more accurately than if we were to invite "everybody".
In such circumstances, we agree with you whether we can use the knowledge we have from our panel members to reach the desired target group more effectively.
In other instances it is important that the surveys are gathered with the correct representative allocation, typically between age groups, gender and geographic areas. In such instances we set up quotas that ensure a sample composition, while our survey tool ensures random selection from our panels.
Finally, we often know how a specific target group should be split according to various parameters, and can therefore apply a combination of both approaches.
