Panels
Userneeds’ business model is based on vast consumer panels. In Denmark we have 92,000 panel members, and we aim to have the biggest panels in all the countries we are represented in.
Large panels give you unique opportunities to run national
representative surveys, segment surveys, very large representative
surveys and surveys that do not use the same people.
The number of panel members is dynamic. Userneeds defines an
active panel member as a member who has responded to a minimum of
one questionnaire in the past year. Using an automated process we
ensure that panel members who have not answered an enquiry in 12
months are automatically removed from the A panels. Every month we
report on panel members' activity, and if the activity level is too
low, the panel member is removed from the active panel and will not
be invited to take part in future surveys.
Userneeds is dedicated to increasing industry standards for online
data capture. As proof of Userneeds' work with data security and
methods, in 2008 Userneeds was authorised from the Danish Data
Protection Agency to capture and store personal and sensitive data.
Userneeds is, as far as we know, the only data supplier in Denmark
with this authorisation.
It is a common assumption that members of internet-based panels
are over represented in groups with a higher education, higher
income, higher degree of urbanity and that spend more time on the
internet. In panels where members volunteer themselves, this
over-representation is particularly pronounced.
Userneeds does not allow members to sign up themselves, and our
methodology ensures that random samples from panels are
representative, also on variables other than just gender, age and
geography.
Userneeds recruits panel members through partnerships with more
than 2000 Nordic websites, by launching user surveys once or twice
a year. This gives us unique access to potential panel members with
comprehensive characteristics.
Half of Userneeds' employees work on panel recruitment and panel
quality. Our employees include sociologists, who continually
conduct GAP analysis of the panels and identify those segments
where a panel lacks members. The recruitment process thus provides
an opportunity to work purposefully on the panel's demographic
composition. This is the prerequisite for providing a good
sample.
